Lines left in the book.

Pamela designed the clothes. They were all custom made for the band. One of a kind.

Jimmy GreenspoonThree Dog Night

You looked lovely. Come by when you want another shirt.

Pamela

Jim wanted peacock feathers on the ceiling and Pamela wanted them on the walls. They both could not compromise so they had them on both. It’s the first thing you notice when you walked in. I think it was a genius idea. You turned a corner, out popped a unicorn. My daughter was two. She loved going there. Pam always gave her a stuffed toy when we visited.

Kiss her for me. The little horse is hers.

Pamela

She mirrored the ceilings and then bought thousands of pheasant skins and layered them onto the ceiling with mirrors. Actually there weren’t a lot of clothes. It was more of a place to hang out than the normal kind of shop. There were always a lot of hip people hanging around and it reeked of dope.

Come sit. I’ll make tea. Or we won’t.

Pamela

Themis was incredibly exclusive because it was never open. You could count on one hand the times it was open.

Tere TerebaDesigner

We were open yesterday. You missed it, darling.

Pamela

A romantic poetry den — not at all like any place you would imagine being located in Southern California. More like something from Paris.

Raeanne RubensteinPhotographer

That’s sweet. Photograph the unicorns next time.

Pamela

Saw the girl from the alley. Still have that frame. No name then. Nice shop.

Don PrietoDrag Racing

Keep the picture. Come in if you’re on La Cienega.

Pamela

That cover still hangs in the garage. The car’s gone. You look the same.

Richie BandelWith Bobby

I don’t drive that fast. But thank you.

Pamela

I sold you a dress shop. You’ve made a cave of it. It looks well. Tell the girls I said hello.

IngaThe shop before

The racks are still yours, in a way. Come sit.

Pamela

The candles are low. Leave them. I like the room this way.

Jim MorrisonUpstairs

Then sit on the floor and stop rearranging my feathers.

Pamela

Dorothy likes the silks. I’ll take a candle if you have a spare.

Ray ManzarekThe Doors

Take two. Tell Dorothy the red one is hers.

Pamela

Quiet in here. Nice. Lynn said she’d come by for a kaftan.

Robby KriegerThe Doors

Tell Lynn I set one aside. The blue.

Pamela

Left my sticks in the car. The floor is too soft to drum anyway.

John DensmoreThe Doors

Good. We don’t need a drummer. We need tea.

Pamela

The rent is paid. Lock the door when you go. Call if you need me.

Bill SiddonsManager

We won’t need you. But thank you, Bill.

Pamela

Thank you for watching Saul. He asked about the unicorns. I’ll bring him if you’re open.

Ola HudsonSkitzo

Bring him. The little horse can be his for an afternoon.

Pamela

I did Jim this morning. He wouldn’t sit still. Your shop smells better than my chair.

Vaya WarrenHairdresser

He never sits still. Have a kaftan anyway.
